"Do without hesitation anything that needs to be done in God's service." This simple mantra is what guided blessed Frederic Ozanam, founder of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, for most of his 30 years.
For many of us blessed with abundance, we hesitate not when it comes to the simple act of donating to our favorite charity, paying our monthly bills, or buying a week's worth of groceries. But for many of our brothers and sisters, it's not that simple. It is estimated that slightly over 50% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. That's every other neighbor on your street, every other person sitting next to you in church, and every other person in line at the grocery store.
"From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded, and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked" (Luke 12:48). Luke has made it perfectly clear we are expected to share our treasures so others will benefit. Therefore, I ask you not to hesitate or delay in giving of your abundance so as to help those like Callie. Only in serving God, and those in need among us, will we truly find the joy that comes from letting go of treasures that were given to us by God in the first place. Let us be like Blessed Frederic and give generously and without hesitation to those who come to us for help.
