Dear Friends of St. Vincent de Paul,

On Easter Sunday, 2020, I made an appeal on behalf of all those families and individuals who were, or were soon to be, financially affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. With so many of you facing uncertainty yourself, I was not prepared for the outpouring of support we received and continue to receive. For that I offer a very sincere thank you.

But in the days following my plea, government reports show unemployment has risen to a percentage exceeding that at the peak of this nation’s Great Depression. Although some individuals will return to work after the threat of Covid-19 has passed, many businesses will have closed permanently.

According to leading economists, we are facing years of economic recovery, and therefore increased demands on social service agencies will persist for years while people rebuild their lives. Accordingly, our work is far from over. Like waves on a beach, the calls to our Emergency Services staff and volunteers continue to come in at an unprecedented rate. Peak volume calls have increased 400% during this crisis, and additional volunteers have offered their services to help answer phones.

I find myself once again asking for your help. As an essential business, with dedicated employees coming in each and every day to help those who are struggling with rent, utility, and food insecurities, we want to help as many families and individuals as we possibly can. But we need your support.

Please give whatever you can to help us help others during these historically unprecedented times.

You can either donate via our website: www.svdppdx.org

Or send a check to: SVdP – Portland Council P.O. Box 42157 Portland, OR 97242 – 0157

Thank you in advance for all the help you can give us at this time.
