Commodity Supplemental Food Programs(CSFP)

Nutritious Foods From the USDAThe St. Vincent de Paul Portland Council is an administrator of the Commodity Supplemental Food Programs (CSFP). CSFP is a Federally funded program, which works to improve the health of low-income pregnant and breastfeeding women, other new mothers up to one year postpartum, infants, children up to age six, and elderly people at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA commodity foods. It provides food and administrative funds to States to supplement the diets of these groups.

  • Participant Eligibility Requirements. Includes low-income pregnant and breastfeeding women, other new mothers up to one year postpartum, infants, children up to their sixth birthday, and elderly persons at least 60 years of age who meet income eligibility requirements.

(Note: Eligible participants cannot participate in USDA's Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) at the same time they participate in CSFP).
  • CSFP food packages do not provide a complete diet, but rather are good sources of the nutrients typically lacking in the diets of the target population.
  • How to Apply. Contact your State distributing agency (SDA) for further assistance. For a list of SDA contacts that includes those which administer CSFP, NSIP, TEFAP, and Schools/Child Nutrition Commodity Programs, click here.
