St. Vincent de Paul, Portland Council is very grateful to the employees of Providence Health and Services in the Portland area who raised $12,226 during their annual Table of the Kings event in February. That amount was matched by the regional office of Providence who presented us with a donation of $24,453. During this annual event all Providence dining areas serve a simple meal of soup and bread. The historical significance is with the founder of The Sisters of Providence, Emilie Gamelin who served a simple meal out of her brother’s house for those who were in need. She called it the Table of the King in recognition of the dignity of every person served.
