Operating from our Food Warehouse is our Food Recovery Network. This program has been expanding in the last few years with more local businesses taking part. The Food Recovery Network is a partnership between St. Vincent de Paul and large businesses in greater Portland (e.g. Nike, Portland State University, etc.) where we recover over-produced food from their campus’ and related cafeterias and restaurants. Food is picked up by St. Vincent de Paul, transported to our food bank where volunteers and staff repackage it into smaller quantities, freeze and store it until given out at feeding sites, local food pantries, etc. This past year, we have recovered over 195,800 pounds of food through this program that would otherwise end up in a land fill.
