Major Programs At St. Vincent de Paul
St. Vincent DePaul Portland from PCMA on Vimeo. The Portland Council was the subject of a video produced by Brian Harris of the Portland Center for the Media Arts (PCMA). The video was released in early August 2016, and runs for about 3-1/2 minutes. The video provides both live footage and expert narratives from our Executive Director and senior staff covering our 3 major programs: the Food Recovery Network, the Mobile Kitchen and the Emergency Services office.
Food Recovery Network
We take a lot of overproduced food from hospitals and restaurants and bring it back on site. We repackage it, label it and freeze it, and make it available to our partners who have feeding programs and food pantries.
The Mobile Kitchen
Thanks to generous grants and other fundraising totaling more than $222,000 a new Mobile Kitchen bus was purchased and in May of 2016 it is completely retrofitted and on the road. The fully contained St. Vincent de Paul Mobile Kitchen will again serve our communities’ working poor, families, homeless, and children in rural areas where resources are limited and food and daily meals are less available.

Emergency Services Office
The Emergency Services program provides financial assistance for rent, utilities, cold weather clothing, and local transportation in the form of bus tickets. Our assistance also includes providing funds to pay utility bills that will prevent a shut-off, and past due rent that will prevent an eviction. Additionally, we are able to provide emergency food boxes to many of our clients that can stretch their very limited resources. Last year $1.6 million was distributed through the 48 Parish Conferences and the Portland Council office to more than 316,000 people in the five county area.
