A Newly Renovated Bus puts the Wheels back on the Mobile Kitchen.
In 2014, the original Blue Bird school bus that had served hundreds of thousands of meals to children and families mostly in rural areas, finally succumbed to the high cost of maintenance and repairs. Thanks to generous grants and other fundraising totaling more than $222,000 a new bus was purchased and in May of 2016 it is completely retrofitted and on the road. The fully contained St. Vincent de Paul Mobile Kitchen will again serve our communities’ working poor, families, homeless, and children in rural areas where resources are limited and food and daily meals are less available. We serve whoever is in need of the services we provide.
Starting in May the Mobile Kitchen will offer hot lunches from Noon to 2:00 pm at St. Aloysius in Estacada, every Wednesday at St. Michaels in Sandy and every Thursday at the Canby Service Center. In June a nine week Summer Food program will begin in partnership with the Oregon Food Bank, Clackamas Service Center, and GracePointe Church. From Noon to 2:00 pm lunches will be served at One Towne Center Apartments to families who are experiencing food insecurity during the summer months.
