How to Ask for Help


NOTICE – Starting Monday, June 11, 2018, the hours for the pantry at our Cornwell Street site will change. If you want to pick up a food box there, the hours are still 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM, but the days have changed to Monday, Wednesday and Friday only.

Our staff and volunteers understand that many households are struggling. We know many households are just one paycheck from being homeless, or one unexpected emergency away from being forced to choose between food and shelter. We are here to help those in need.

Our Emergency Services program is professionally staffed along with assistance from volunteers.  The staff and volunteers answer incoming phone calls from five area counties (rent & utility calls from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM only, Monday – Friday), and assist walk-in clients for food from any of these counties, and financial assistance for residents of Multnomah and Clackamas counties.

Our pantry is capable of supplying a 3-day supply of healthy, well-balanced food. Call 503-235-8431 to request a food box from a nearby Catholic parish, or you may pick up a food box at our 8101 Cornwell St. site on Monday through Friday, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM.

When sufficient funds are available, we assist with utilities (if there’s a shut-off notice) and rent. For those in Multnomah or Clackamas county, the process to receive rent or utility assistance is as follows:

Rent requests: Please bring to our office your landlord’s contact information, a copy of your rental agreement and any past-due and/or eviction notices you may have received, and photo identification.

Utility requests (water, electric, gas): Please bring  to our office your latest bill, shut-off notice, and photo identification. We won’t be able to pay off your current bill, but we’ll do what we can to help pay the amount that will prevent the shut-off from happening.

Our office is open between the hours of 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. As we can only see a limited number of people a day, depending on funding and staff availability, we highly recommend that you arrive as early as possible to improve your chances of being seen the same day.

We can take walk-in rent & utility requests from Multnomah and Clackamas Counties only.

Due to the high numbers of phone calls and walk-in clients, we ask for your understanding and patience. A lot of families and individuals are in need, and we’re working as hard as we can to take the time to lend a hand.
