The Portland Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has announced the appointment of Brian Ferschweiler as executive director. He was most recently executive director of the Clackamas Service Center and prior to that served as the executive director of the Blanchet House of Hospitality in Portland, OR.
Ferschweiler earned a BA in Human Development from Portland State University and Washington State University. He is a graduate of Jesuit High School, past member of the Board of Trustees and co-founder of the Jesuit High School alumni food drive. The food drive is now an on-campus event that delivers 2,000 boxes of food each year at Christmas. He has been honored for his years of service at Blanchet House where the 4th floor is named after him. He, his wife and children live in southeast Portland and attend Christ the King Catholic Church in Milwaukie, OR.
About his appointment Brian said, “As a lifelong practicing Catholic, and resident of Portland for over 60 years, I have a strong connection with the Catholic community that will help the St. Vincent de Paul mission achieve greater visibility. My strong connection with the religious community helped me spread the mission of Blanchet House. Being the executive director of St. Vincent de Paul will also allow me to live out my core Catholic beliefs and values.” According to Robert Gazewood, president of the Portland Council, “The Board of Directors is extremely pleased that Brian has accepted this leadership position with St. Vincent de Paul. We feel that his experience and passion for our mission is exactly what the organization needs to reinvigorate our services in the Region.”
