Our faith guides us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition. Our mission directs us to provide assistance to anyone who asks for our help. The services our staff and volunteers provide help reduce hunger and prevent homelessness. We can only do what we do with your help. Easter reminds us that suffering still exists and that we are still called to feed and aid those in need. Spring is here and during these most holy of days let us continue to be of service to others, to draw upon the spiritual power that Easter gives us, and put our beliefs into action.East Appeal 17

St. Vincent de Paul, Portland Council is very grateful to the employees of Providence Health and Services in the Portland area who raised $12,226 during their annual Table of the Kings event in February. That amount was matched by the regional office of Providence who presented us with a donation of providence-hea-svcs-logo-2x$24,453. During this annual event all Providence dining areas serve a simple meal of soup and bread. The historical significance is with the founder of The Sisters of Providence, Emilie Gamelin who served a simple meal out of her brother’s house for those who were in need. She called it the Table of the King in recognition of the dignity of every person served.

Receiving four out of a possible four stars tells donors that we adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and that we consistently executes our mission in a fiscally responsible way. Only 4% of the Charity Navigator charities have received at least 6 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Society of St Vincent de Paul, Portland Council outperforms most other charities in America.

St. Vincent de Paul receives top ranking in 2015 for sound fiscal management, transparency, and accountability.

The annual Central Catholic food drive broke all previous records.  November 16 – 20 the students worked hard to gather as much food as possible, and of course one of the goals was to be the winner of the Cup O’ Soup Trophy. The senior class won first place by collecting 2,284 items. The sophomore class came in at 2,254 items. Overall more than 7,000 items plus $8,000 were collected.  That food will fill 140 food boxes for families in need during the holiday season.  A rousing THANK YOU to all of our supporters at Central Catholic High School.
